As well as helping prepare for Houghton, jetting off to the trade shows and showcasing our new jewellery brands, two of the girls from the Dereham store – Debbie and Nicola – have also been busy doing their Jewellery Education and Training (JET) qualifications

Course topics include sales techniques and customer service, jewellery product knowledge, precious metals and hallmarks, watches and clocks, silverware and gifts, anniversaries, types of chains, birthstones, carat sizes and diamond shapes.

They are due to finish in September and we’ve got no doubt that their hard work and enthusiasm will have them qualified in no time – keep going girls!

Talking of experts, the two ladies behind Francis Wain – Jules Wain and Donne Kidson - have also been talking about their favourite pieces, the memories behind them and what inspired them to get into the jewellery trade.

Jules specifically remembers a Victorian brooch left to her by her great grandmother and a black opal and diamond ring given to her by her grandmother, both of which remind her of the ‘great role models’ that the women were to her. Jules commented, ‘Her [grandmother’s] strength of character has affected me enormously, as has her courage and tenacity.’

Donne’s fascination with beautiful jewellery was inspired by her wonderful grandmother ‘She is a very determined, hard working lady who never fails to surprise us. I have always looked up to her and admired her passion for life. She used to let me play with her collection when I was a small child. I remember being captivated by two rather exceptional diamond cluster rings in her jewellery box’ she remarks that ‘the beguiling thing about jewellery is every piece has a story or a memory behind it which makes it so special to wear.’

It was on her first buying trip to Italy with Edward Wain that she fell in love with a Picchotti diamond band, which she saved up for and bought with the intention of creating her own story- passing it onto her future grand-daughters and daughters-in-law.
